“NOW IS THE TIME” Documentary Film Screening Premiere

Laurie Simons and Terry Sterrenberg, producers of the “Health Care Movie” have created a brand new documentary that gives us a lot to ponder in these few short weeks leading up to the presidential election: “Now Is the Time: Healthcare for Everybody.” The film questions if we are on the right path to affordable, universal health care and makes the case for why we need a single payer health system in America. Laurie and Terry will be visiting Philadelphia on Oct. 10 for the Philadelphia premiere of their 71-minute film. Come see this free film, bring your questions and meet these activist filmmakers as they present their new movie at Weavers Way Co-op in Mt. Airy.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the film rolls at 7. Admission is free; all are welcome. Register HERE.
“Six years after President Obama’s landmark health care achievement, our understanding of the triumphs and failures of the Affordable Care Act are clearer. Millions of Americans have gotten private health insurance, but 40% of Americans now have very high deductibles and copayments to wrestle with. Most private insurers have threatened to leave the individual Marketplace or have asked for 30-50% increases in premiums. Large federal expenditures are facing Congress as subsidies and Medicaid costs continue to rise. Health care is still a market commodity and not a public good.”
— Walter Tsou, past president of the American Public Health Association, former health commissioner of Philadelphia, founding member of the National Board of Public Health Examiners and president of Philadelphia Physicians for Social Responsibility

Businessman Richard Master got sick of double digit increases in his employee’s health insurance premiums and decided to investigate what was behind the rise in health care costs. His conclusion was that America needs a single payer, national health insurance system. His hour long documentary is a superb movie explaining the business case for single payer. If you promise to show the movie, you can get a copy and see the trailer at Fix It: Healthcare at the tipping point
Good stuff.
